Truffle Hunting & Seasonal Availability

Truffles are a natural, seasonal product, and as such we cannot guarantee how many truffles will be found on any given tour.

For public scheduled tours during hunting season, we will always do our best to ensure that at least one guest from each booking party has the opportunity to dig up (harvest) a truffle. However, this cannot be guaranteed. If time permits and truffles are plentiful, additional digging opportunities may be available.

Please keep this in mind when making your booking and setting your expectations for the day.

Truffles harvested during your tour are incorporated into the menu served to guests that day. However, if you would like to purchase the truffle you have harvested, you are welcome to do so at the current retail price.

Our summer truffle season usually begins in early December and continues through to late May, while our winter truffle season usually begins in early June and runs through to mid-September. As with all naturally grown products, these seasons are determined by Mother Nature, and we cannot guarantee the availability of fresh truffles throughout these periods.

OUT-OF-SEASON TOURS
The fresh truffle harvest usually runs from December through to September. During October and November, between the winter and summer harvests, The Truffle Farm offers an Out-of-Season Truffle Farm Tour.

As there are no fresh truffles ready to harvest during this period, the experience differs slightly from tours offered during the fresh truffle season.

Guests visit the plantation with the truffle dogs and learn about truffle growing and hunting. The dogs demonstrate how they search for truffles using specially placed truffle-scented decoys rather than naturally growing mature truffles.

Following the plantation experience, guests enjoy a three-cheese truffle toastie featuring premium Tasmanian black winter truffle frozen at peak maturity, along with tastings of gourmet truffle products, truffle ice cream and a choice of Tasmanian wine, beer or non-alcoholic beverage.

No fresh truffles are harvested during Out-of-Season tours. Fresh truffle pizza is also only available during the fresh truffle season.
